We've been in Ghana for about 10 hours now, but before we recap our adventures here we wanted to quickly share what we've been doing for the last 8 days at sea. It's been our first really long stretch, and all in all it was a lot of fun.
First, the bad: GI bugs from Morocco, failing toilet systems, total email blackouts, and crappy internet.
But it's hard to complain about those things too much when this is the view outside your window:
|
Sunrise near the equator |
Or this:
|
Seriously smooth sailing. I never knew the Atlantic could look so much like a lake! |
Or this:
|
Rainbow after a sudden squall |
The crew has also been doing their part to keep us happy:
|
Fruit monkey on the buffet line |
And has even offered tours of the bridge so we can learn how the ship works.
|
Even with radar, GPS, and other technology, there is still a physical look out to scan the ocean at all times. |
|
Do you know how to drive this thing? |
Finally, one morning I was working in the faculty lounge and Jason was in class when a crew member came over the loudspeaker and announced that Captain Morgan was needed at the reception desk. We were confused, especially when the crew appear on the top deck, grabbed water hoses, and took position along the front.
It was only a test, but "Captain Morgan" is the code for pirate attack! Should pirates ever attack us, the idea is to use the hoses to knock them off their ships. I hope we never have the chance to figure out if it works.
Stay tuned for Ghanian adventures soon!
